While American Andy Roddick was unable to complete his match on Day 2 due to poor light and rain, the other headlining men at Wimbledon avoided the upsets and moved into the second round. It certainly wasn't a clean start for Rafael Nadal, however, as the Spaniard dropped the first four games of his match against Thomaz Bellucci. But the reigning French Open champion responded nicely to move on in straight sets, defeating Bellucci 7-6 (0), 6-2, 6-3.
The home favorite, Andy Murray, easily moved past Nikolay Davydenko with a 6-1, 6-1, 6-4 victory. Murray controlled the match from the first serve and was never broken in an impressive showing after a tumultuous time at Roland Garros. Also on the men's side, Frenchman Jo-Wilifried Tsonga defeated former Wimbledon champ Lleytton Hewitt, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Tsonga is coming off that gut-wrenching loss to Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals in Paris, where he squandered four match points against the No. 1 ranked player in the world.
Roddick led Jamie Baker 7-6 (1), 4-2 before the match was called on Court 1.
