The Men's quarterfinals finally finished up Wednesday afternoon with two players headed to the semifinals later in the week. No. 4 seeded Andy Murray fell short in his match with No. 6 seeded David Ferrer in a long four set match. Ferrer picked up the first set 6-4, but Murray roared back in the second set to win it 7-6, winning the second-set tiebreak. Ferrer rebounded however, winning the next two sets 6-3, 6-2 to take home the match and advance.
Rafael Nadal was also able to take down No. 12 seeded Nicolas Almagro in straight sets to move on.
On the women's side of the tournament, No. 2 seeded Maria Sharapova knocked off No. 23 seeded Kaia Kanepi in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Kanepi made some waves in the tournament when she upset No. 9 seeded Caroline Wozniacki in the third round, but Sharapova put an end to the Cinderella story.
No. 4 seeded Petra Kvitova held off an upset charge by Yaroslava Shvedova, defeating Shvedova in three sets.
