The Women's final of the French Open is set as No. 2 Maria Sharapova of Russia and No. 21 Sara Errani of Italy both won their semi final matches on Thursday.
Sharapova defeated No. 4 Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. This is the third grand slam final she has made in the last four tournaments. Despite all of that success, she has not won a grand slam tournament since the Australian Open in 2008. It is also the first ever French Open finals Sharapova has reached, she had previously reached the semi finals in 2007 and 2011.
In the Other semi-final, Errani defeated No. 6 Samantha Stosur of Australia 7-5, 1-6, 6-3. This is the first grand slam final she has reached as a singles player. Her best performance in a grand slam up to this point was reaching the quarterfinals in this past year's Australian Open. Her best performance in the French Open before this was reaching the second round last year.
The Women's Final will be broadcast live on NBC at 9 a.m. Eastern Time on Saturday.
