2012 Summer Olympics Schedule: 12 Gold Medals To Be Awarded On First Full Day Of Competition

The 2012 Summer Olympics are set to open in 11 days. 12 gold medals will be awarded on the first day of competition, including one that could be won by Baltimore's Michael Phelps.

The 2012 Summer Olympics are only 11 days away. The full schedule of events has been published on NBC Sports' web site, breaking down how many gold medals will be awarded every day of the competition. In the first full day of competition, 12 gold medals, including four in swimming, will be awarded.

In swimming, Baltimore, Maryland's Michael Phelps will try for his fifteenth olympic gold medal when he competes in the men's 400 meter individual medley. Medals will also be awarded in the men's 400 meter freestyle, the women's 400 individual medley and the women's 4x100 meter freestyle relay.

Gold medals will also be awarded in archery, cycling, fencing, judo, shooting and weightlifting on day one. Other preliminaries will include women's basketball, tennis, soccer and gymnastics.
