Navy Midshipmen running back Gee Gee Greene is one of 52 candidates on the 2012 Doak Walker Award preseason watch list. The award is given to the best running back in college football at the conclusion of every season, and Greene is expected to rack up a high volume of touches in Navy's run-heavy option offense.
In 2011, Greene rushed for 501 yards on 64 carries, both good for third on the team. With seniors Kriss Proctor and Alexander Teich gone, Greene should see more carries in 2012.
Montee Ball of Wisconsin returns to school after leading the nation in both rushing yards and scoring in 2011, and is one of the big favorites to win the award. South Carolina's Marcus Lattimore will be a contender as well if he can stay healthy, along with Nebraska's Rex Burkhead and Arkansas' Knile Davis. Trent Richardson, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, won last year's award.
