Virginia Tech Hokies quarterback Logan Thomas was one of 50 players nominated to that list. In 2011, Thomas threw for 3,013 yards and 19 touchdowns. He completed close to 60 percent of his passes. He was also a threat on the ground, rushing for 469 yards and 11 touchdowns in helping the Hokies reach the Sugar Bowl.
Maryland Terrapins defensive tackle Joe Vellano was on that list as well. Vellano, also on the Nagurski and Outland lists, was all-ACC and was second-team all-American in 2011. He started all 12 games at Maryland last season and had four where he recorded double digit tackles.
