The United States has dominated the medal count in most Olympics, but according to Brian Cazenueve of Sports Illustrated the gap between USA and China is closing. After defeating the hosting China by 10 total medals in 2008, Cazenueve predicted the medal results of every event in the Olympics and predicts that the Chinese will close that gap down to just two medals behind the Americans.
Among his predictions though, are some interesting guesses for the results featuring some Americans from the extended DC area. Gabby Douglas of Virginia Beach is one of the favorites to place in the women's individual gymnastics competition, but Cazenueve believes her biggest competition will be USA's Jordyn Wieber. Cazenueve predicts that Wieber will take home the gold for Team USA, but Douglas will take home the silver.
He also predicts that Michael Phelps will split his two highly anticipated individual medley battles with Ryan Lochte, winning the 200-meter, but losing in the 400-meter to Lochte.
