2012 London Olympics: Michael Phelps Finishes Disappointing Fourth In 400M IM Final

After barely qualifying for the 400M IM Final at the 2012 London Olympics, Michael Phelps came up short of the podium in his first battle with teammate and rival Ryan Lochte, finishing fourth in Saturday's final. Lochte captured the gold medal, the first for the United States at this year's Summer Games.

Lochte posted a time of 4 minutes, 5.18 seconds in capturing the gold, while Phelps failed to medal with a time of 4 minutes, 9.28 seconds. Brazil's Thiago Pereira took the silver, while Japan's Kosuke Hagino came in third and took the bronze.

Lochte and Phelps could see each other again Thursday in the 200M Individual Medley, that is as long as they both make it through the preliminary heats, no easy task for Phelps on Saturday.
