Team USA was looking for their first gold medal since 1984 in the Men's Gymnastics Team event.and their first gold in this event in an Olympiad where there where countries did not boycott. Though Team USA had the highest score after the qualifying round, that score was wiped away and the Americans struggled and finished fifth overall.
China won the gold medal in the team event, with a final overall score of 275.997. Japan took the silver medal with a score of 271.952 and Great Britain won the bronze medal with a final score of 271.711. Team USA finished with an overall score of 269.952.
This is not the end of Team USA in gymnastics at the London Olympics. Competitors Danell Leyva and John Orozco will both be competing in the all-around competition on Wednesday so there is still a chance that some US gymnasts could still medal.
