2012 Summer Olympics: Germany Wins, USA Finishes Fourth In Men's Eight Rowing

Germany won the gold medal in the men's eight rowing competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics on Wednesday. Leading throughout the race. The Canadian team used a late surge to pass Great Britain and win the silver medal, forcing the UK to settle for bronze.

The American men's eight team featured a pair of local rowers on the crew, David Banks and Giuseppe Lanzone. Team USA finished fourth in the event, missing the medal by just 0.30 seconds.

The German team lead at the 500m, 1000m and 1500m marks of the race, and finished a lengthy 1.23 seconds better than the Canadian team. For the British, it was their second rowing medal of the day.

The men's eight features eight rowers and a coxswain directing the crew.
