PGA Championship Leaderboard: Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh Share Lead As Cut Is Made At Kiawah

The second round of the 2012 PGA Championship is in the books, with the afternoon wave finishing up their rounds just as the sun set over picturesque Kiawah Island on the Carolina coast. At the halfway point, some familiar names are atop the leaderboard, with former Wanamaker winners Vijay Singh and Tiger Woods at 4-under. Matching them at 4-under is Carl Pettersson, the American Tour veteran who's looking capture his first major in what could be the swan song for his belly putter.

The wind was up on Friday at Kiawah, creating dramatically different scoring conditions from the gettable track on Thursday. Tiger took advantage of the high numbers, holding the line and firing a 71 to move up the board amid the surrounding carnage. Woods, who struggled with his putter last week at Firestone, was hitting all his putts at Pete Dye's paspalum masterpiece. The game's most famous player has become fairly reliant on his cut shot, almost exclusively playing the ball left to right but he managed to work it through the wind to fire one of the rare rounds under par. Woods bogeyed the last to drop a shot and fall back into the three-way tie.

Singh, the game's ultimate grinder and workhorse, carded a remarkable 69 in the blustery conditions. His 3-under mark was the low round of the day and positioned him perfectly for the weekend. As is typically the case with Singh, he'll need to come through with the flatstick to stay around.

Among the notables to miss the cut were U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson, Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III, Sergio Garcia, and Lee Westwood, who continued his disappointing season at the majors. Matt Kuchar, Rickie Fowler, and Hunter Mahan were three Americans who all came into the week looking to improve their Ryder Cup position. All three are going home after just two rounds. Kuchar is just inside the top eight, with Mahan remarkably just outside the automatic points qualifying list.
