2012 London Olympics: Local Cyclist Georgia Gould Earns Bronze Medal In Women's Mountain Bike Race

The 2012 London Olympics are winding down, with this weekend serving as the finale of a fortnight of high-level athletic competition. One of two local athletes in action on Saturday, Baltimore native Georgia Gould, earned the bronze medal on Saturday in the women's mountain bike race held at Hadleigh Farms in Benfleet, Essex, about 35 miles east of London.

The 32-year old, who finished eight at the 2008 Beijing Games, finished with a time of 1:32.00, behind Julie Bresset of France (1:30.52) and Sabine Spitz of Germany (1:31.54). Gould missed out on a silver medal by just .06 seconds.

Gould's bronze was only the second Olympic medal in mountain biking for an American. Susan DeMattei also earned a bronze, at the 1996 Atlanta Games.
