ASHBURN, Va - Redskins training camp on Saturday was not about who was practicing, but more about who wasn't. The list of non-participants continues to grow, with two offensive lineman now added.
Perhaps the most concerning injury happened Thursday night, when starting left tackle Trent Williams injured his foot against the Buffalo Bills in limited action. X-Rays were negative, but that doesn't mean that Williams won't miss time, according to head coach Mike Shanahan.
"He's got a bone bruise," Shanahan said after practice. "[He's] pretty sore right now. We'll have to play it day-by-day. I know it'll be a few days."
When asked if he anticipated Williams playing next Saturday against the Chicago Bears, Shanahan said "it's kinda wait and see right now."
Another lineman who was injured Thursday was backup left guard Maurice Hurt, who spent most of practice on Saturday on the sidelines without pads, wearing a compression sleeve on his left leg.
"[Hurt]'s a little bit sore right now," Shanahan said. "I'm not sure if he's going to be able to practice on Monday [too]. He's got a tendon behind his knee that's a little bit inflamed, but hopefully it won't keep him out too much. "
With Hurt and Williams out, four of the five offensive lineman that got first team reps on Saturday were replacing injured starters, with center Will Montgomery being the only starting lineman who has yet to get injured.
"You're always disappointed when somebody goes down," said of the team's injury situation, "but it's the nature of the game. That's why you need a little depth. We got a few [offensive lineman] in the draft and a couple in free agency, so we've got a little more depth than we had a year ago."
It appears that so far during this preseason, that depth will be tested early and often.
