Charlottesville, Va. native and University of Virginia swimmer Lauren Perdue picked up a gold medal by being a part of the victorious women's 4x200 meter relay team Wednesday night. That was apparently enough to earn her a dinner invitation from a guy who just picked up some hardware of his own -- recent NBA champion LeBron James.
The New York Daily News picks up the story.
Perdue (@LoPerdue) tweeted "Lebron James just invited me to dinner... Um wuuuutttt?!?" She also sent out an Instagram picture of her standing with a horn-rim clad James and the caption "Oh heyy Lebon."
Even crazier? She turned him down, citing curfew for athletes in the Olympic Village. The tweet has since been deleted.
Before everyone goes nuts, the story itself points out that LeBron recently got engaged to his high-school sweetheart. To be perfectly honest, it's hard to imagine what such a dinner conversation would entail, anyway. If we're operating on the assumption that the cafeteria at the Olympic Village is basically a giant McDonalds, would there be a debate on the merits of the Big Mac vs. the Quarter Pounder with cheese? Or should we say, Royale with Cheese?
