Olympics 2012: Michael Phelps Wins Gold In 200m Individual Medley

Baltimore's Michael Phelps is back on top of a familiar place, the medal podium. The swimmer won his 16th Olympic gold medal in the 200m individual medley on Thursday, beating out fellow American Ryan Lochte, who won the silver medal, by 0.63 seconds.

The win gives Phelps his 20th overall Olympic medal, which include a pair of silver medals and bronze medals. This extends his lead as the most decorated Olympian in the history of the games. The podium was rounded out by Hungary's Laszlo Cseh, who claimed the bronze medal with a time of 1:56.22.

While the event was not broadcast live, it will be broadcast later tonight on NBC as part of their prime time coverage.
