2012 Olympics Medal Count: Michael Phelps, Gabby Douglas Thursday's Big Winners

The United States has pulled ahead of China in the London 2012 Olympics medal count with 37 total medals, and is also tied with China in the gold medal count, with 18 apiece. China opened Thursday on top, but the United States had a big day, dominating particularly in swimming and gymnastics.

Gymnast Gabby Douglas won the gold medal in the women's all-around, the United States' third consecutive win in the competition. The United States continued to perform in swimming as well, as Michael Phelps won the 200 meter individual medley. He was the two-time defending champion in the event and became the first swimmer to win the same event in three consecutive Olympic games. Ryan Lochte finished second in the event. Two other Americans, Tyler Clary and Rebecca Soni, also won gold medals in swimming on Thursday.
