Golf is underway at Bethpage Black for the first event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and in the early going, Nick Watney has emerged as the early leader at 6-under.
Watney, who has played 15 holes, is ahead of a pack that's scoring well. Just behind him are Padraig Harrington and Gary Christian at 5-under, while a group of golfers including Sergio Garcia and K.J. Choi are at 4-under. The pairing of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy isn't tearing up the field, but both are hanging around at 2-under.
A pair of payers with DC-area connections have begun their rounds as well: Johnson Wagner, who played at Virginia Tech, is at 1-under through 12 holes and Richmond native John Rollins, who went to VCU for college, is 1-over through 12.
