William & Mary Vs. Maryland: Isaiah Ross Out, Keith Bowers Doubtful For Terps Opener

The status of Maryland Terrapins sophomore defensive end Keith Bowers for the team's season opener against William & Mary is doubtful, head coach Randy Edsall announced Tuesday. If Bowers doesn't play, the Terrapins' defensive line will be missing two players as fellow lineman Isaiah Ross was proclaimed out as well.

The news doesn't come as too much of a surprise, as both players were not listed on the team's depth chart. Instead, seniors Joe Vellano and A.J. Francis each will start, while freshman Quinton Jefferson and junior Justin Anderson will be their backups, respectively.

Despite having dependable fill-ins, the Terrapins have lost a lot of bodies on the defensive line including Andre Monroe for the season. The loss of Bowers, who started in 11 of the 12 games he played in last season and earned College Football News' freshman All-American honors, could be a tough one to overcome in the long run.
