Serena Williams had quite the Saturday at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Early in the day, she captured her first singles gold medal by demolishing Maria Sharapova 6-0, 6-1, then in the evening she and sister Venus won their women's doubles semifinal match over Russians Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova 7-5, 6-4.
Kirilenko is perhaps best know as the girlfriend of Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin, who has been serving as amateur tennis reporter at these summer games as he followed the play of Kirilenko and Petrova.
The Williams sisters will go for their third doubles gold medal when they take on the Czech team of Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka in the Olympic final to be played on Sunday at 7:00 a.m. EST.
