Chris Pontius' 10th goal of the season broke D.C. United's two-game MLS losing streak as the Black-And-Red defeated the Columbus Crew, 1-0 Saturday night at RFK Stadium.
Pontius scored the only goal of the game in the 49th minute, slamming home a rebound from close range after Nick DeLeon had muscled and spun his way past two Columbus defenders on the right wing and Long Tan had failed to redirect the ball into the net past Andy Gruenebaum.
Video of the goal is below.
With the win, D.C. United remained in fourth place in the Eastern Conference (11-7-3, 36 points). The Black-And-Red are two points behind New York in the race for third and four points behind Houston and Sporting Kansas City in the hunt for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. However, United has two games in hand on all three teams above them.
United face Sporting Kansas City at Livestrong Sporting Park next Saturday. Kick-off is at 8:30 p.m.
