2012 London Olympics Local Heroes: Track Stars Take Center Stage

As the 2012 Summer Olympics roll into their final week, a lot of the athletes with D.C.-area ties have left the stage. Some have left in glory (Michael Phelps, Katie Ledecky, Gabby Douglas), some in honorable defeat (Andy Najar's Honduras team were eliminated by Brazil in the quarterfinals Saturday), and some because the pain was too much to bear (LaShawn Merritt). But there are still a few doing the area proud, and here's who to watch for Sunday.

Hampton's Francena McCorory will compete in the finals of the women's 400m race (4:10 p.m.). Her fellow Hamptonian T'erea Brown will run in the first round of her only event at these Games, the 400m hurdles (2:00 p.m.). Annapolis-born Matt Centrowitz will run in the semifinals of the men's 1500m (3:15 p.m.)

Away from the Olympic Stadium, Bobby Lea will compete in the final three races of the omnium event in men's track cycling. He's currently in 11th place and will run a 4km individual pursuit (5:00 a.m.), a 15km scratch race (12:01 p.m.), and a 1 km time trial (1:16 p.m.)

Out in Weymouth, Annapolis' Farrah Hall will continue the women's RS-X event, with two more races to run on Sunday (7:00 a.m. and 7:50 a.m.) before Tuesday's medal race. Hall is currently in 22nd place.
