2012 Olympics Medal Count: China Overtakes The United States

Despite a strong day on the track from the likes of Sanya Richards-Ross and Dee Dee Trotter, the United States fell behind China in total medal count. In men's track, Justin Gatlin was able to get a bronze in the 100m for the United States.

The Chinese hold a 61-60 edge over the U.S. despite the fact that Team USA gained six medals Sunday, including three golds. China was able to gain ground on the U.S. through the diving medals awarded Sunday, an event they have dominated.

Great Britain remains in third thanks to Andy Murray's play on the tennis court. The host nation has 37 medals.

Complete standings for the top countries can be found in this video.
