The American men's basketball team holds a 56-42 lead over the Australian team on Wednesday afternoon, as the tournament for the medals in the event have begun. The United States needs three more victories to be able to take home gold once again.
The U.S. team jumped out to a 28-21 lead after the first quarter, matching the same pace in the second quarter to build a 14-point lead. While the lead is in double-digits, the game isn't in the bag just yet. Australian guard Patrick Mills is helping to keep the team in the game with 12 points in the first half.
For the U.S., Deron Williams leads the team in scoring in the first half with 13 points while LeBron James nearly had a double-double with seven points and 10 rebounds.
