The Virginia Cavaliers kickoff the 2012 season on Saturday, Sept. 1, as they play host to the Richmond Spiders.

Virginia will look to build on a moderately successful 2011 campaign. It was a season in which the Cavaliers went 8-4 in the regular season, earning a bid to the Chick-fil-A Bowl. Unfortunately, Virginia lost to Auburn 43-24 in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, ending the season on a sour note.

Richmond is easily the weakest of Virginia's non-conference opponents in 2012. The Cavaliers will also face Penn St., Louisiana Tech, and TCU out of ACC play this season.

2012 will be the third season for Mike London as head coach of the Cavaliers. Prior to being hired at Virginia, London was the head coach at Richmond -- where he won the FCS Championship in 2008, going 13-3 en route to winning the title.

London was named the ACC coach of the year in 2011, as London's Cavaliers pulled off a number of upsets.

Game time, TV channel: 3 p.m. ET, Comcast Sports Net
