D.C. United midfielder Dwayne De Rosario will be out 10-12 weeks after suffering an MCL sprain in a World Cup qualifying match with Canada. The reigning MLS MVP and United captain has played in 26 games this season, starting all but one game.
On Aug. 29, he scored his 100th career MLS goal, the seventh player in the league's history to eclipse that mark. Before the injury, De Rosario had scored seven goals this season and recorded 12 assists, second in the MLS.
United head coach Ben Olsen is disappointed with the loss of their captain, but also says the team does have the talent to still make the playoffs:
DeRo is our captain, a great player and impossible to replace. With that said, we have talented players that will step up in his absence and this injury will not be an excuse to fall short of goals we set for ourselves as a team at the beginning of the season.
The United's next game is Saturday against the New England Revolution at RFK Stadium. The match is set to start at 7:30 p.m.
