After suffering an MCL sprain while on international duty with Canada, Dwayne De Rosario is effectively done for the season. The reigning Major League Soccer MVP has been ruled out for 10-12 weeks with the injury. That will rule him out for all of the club's seven remaining regular-season fixtures, as well as any potential playoff matches. United currently sit in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 41 points, trailing fifth place Columbus by a single point. The top five teams in each conference will qualify for the playoffs.
The folks over at Black And Red United are understandably upset, as the loss of their captain will be a major setback as they attempt to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2007. Comments like the following seem to highlight the reaction of the fanbase in general:
Even with the August slump I just kept thinking ‘nah, they’re gonna make it to the playoffs… I mean they have to!’ I need to be held.
United will be facing the New England Revolution at 7:30 p.m. ET from RFK Stadium on Saturday, as they adjust to life without De Rosario.
