Virginia Tech's opening matchup of the 2012 season has some major ACC implications, as the winner of Georgia Tech-Virginia Tech has made its way to the ACC Championship Game in each of the seven years that game has been contested.
The No. 16 Hokies will be tested by Bobby Johnson's triple option offense. Not many teams can quickly adjust to a look different from what most teams run, but if anybody can, its Virginia Tech: the Hokies returns nine starters to a defense that was in the top ten in points allowed last season, and held the Yellow Jackets' throwback attack to 243 yards on the ground last season - a relatively low number for a team that looks to run 80 percent of the time. Logan Thomas returns to lead a Hokies attack that hopes to bring Virginia Tech to a BCS game when all is said and done. Besides he Yellow Jackets, there doesn't seem to be anybody else in the Coastal Division that can contend for a bid to the conference championship game, meaning Virginia Tech's season is hanging in the balance from its opening kickoff.
