Play has been suspended for the night at the U.S. Open because of rain, stopping play between Juan Martin del Potro and Andy Roddick and the rest of the action from the U.S. Open. Play will resume Wednesday.
No. 20 Roddick and del Potro were in a tiebreaker early in their round-of-16 meeting. Roddick had been cruising early, but del Potro broke back to even the set and force the tiebreaker. The two had played one point of the tiebreaker before officials stopped play.
No. 2 Novak Djokovic was leading No. 18 Stanislas Wawrinka 2-0 in the first set when the weather struck again Tuesday night at Louis Armstrong Court. Djokovic had taken advantage of his first and only break-point opportunity against Wawrinka.
Janko Tipsarevic was on the verge of taking the first set from Philipp Kohlschreiber on the Grandstand, while an earlier suspended match between No. 3 Maria Sharapova and No. 11 Marion Bartoli was still suspended at 4-0 Bartoli.
