New York Red Bulls vs. D.C. United: Match time, TV schedule and more

Due to the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the Red Bulls and United agreed to swap home dates in their Eastern Conference Semifinal

Jeff Golden

Undefeated in seven matches, D.C. United opens its Eastern Conference semifinal with the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night at RFK Stadium. The match was originally scheduled to be played at Red Bull Arena, but the home dates for the series we swapped as the New York area recovers from the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

United comes into this series undefeated in their last seven matches, notching five decisions and two draws since a loss at Real Salt Lake on September 1. New York comes off a 3-0 decision against Philadelphia in their regular season finale, and finished the season with back-to-back shutouts.

The season series was knotted up at 1-1-1, but the last match was played in August. United has been outstanding both defensively and in goal over their seven-match unbeaten streak, giving up only six goals in that span, more than compensating for the loss of league MVP Dwayne DeRosario with injury. Chris Pontius led United with 12 goals.

New York has been much more offensively minded, with Kenny Cooper (18 goals) and Thierry Henry (15) packing scoring punch. However, D.C. keeper Bill Hamid has been shutting everybody down of late.

Time and Date: November 3, 8:00 p.m.

Location: RFK Stadium, Washington, D.C.

TV: NBC Sports Network
