D.C. United have announced that first-choice goalkeeper Bill Hamid will miss 1-3 weeks after suffering a sprained ankle and bone bruise.

Hamid suffered the injury during a U.S. Men's National Team U-23 match against El Salvador Monday night. After sustaining his injury, Hamid allowed two El Salvador goals before being subbed off in the 39th minute. The 3-3 draw eliminated the U.S. from qualifying contention for this summer's Olympic Games in London.

It's unfortunate that Bill sustained multiple injuries against El Salvador and was not physically able to finish the match," United General Manager Dave Kasper said in a statement. "We are proud of his effort and commitment with the U-23 team."

Joe Willis had started two D.C. United matches in Hamid's national team-enforced absence, a 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy on March 18, as well as Saturday's 0-0 draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Willis is expected to get the start on Friday, when United hosts FC Dallas at RFK Stadium.
