D.C. United has signed midfielder Branko Boskovic of Montenegro to a new contract through the summer of 2013. The team issued a press release announcing the signing.
The 32-year-old is currently in his third season with United, having joined the club in 2010. Originally signed as a Designated Player, Boskovic will not be classified as such under the new contract.
Because he agreed to not be a designated player under this new contract, Boskovic will be taking a bit of a paycut with this contract, according to Washington Post soccer writer Steven Goff. Boskovic has not had the chance to show what he is capable of, given that he has dealt with injuries since signing with the black and red in 2010.
I am happy [United] offered me something after these two years. I must be honest: I didn't show what I could do. I must say thank you to these people that they gave me one more chance.
Boskovic could be in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against Montreal Impact at RFK Stadium having only started five games in 17 MLS matches so far this season.
