Bill Hamid conceded a penalty and was sent off in the 17th minute as D.C. United trail the Houston Dynamo 2-0 at halftime at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston.
Hamid conceded the penalty after Macoumba Kandji ran on to a lofted through ball from Corey Ashe and was bearing down on the goal. Hamid attempted a feet-first challenge and Kandji went flying. Referee Jasen Anno did not hesitate in pointing to the spot, and quickly showed Hamid the red card.
Video of the incident is below.
Joe Willis came on to take the place of the ejected Hamid and Branko Boskovic was removed from the field to bring United's number to 10. Brad Davis took the penalty and made no mistake.
Hamid's red card has earned him an automatic one-game suspension, which will be served Saturday, when the Black-And-Red face the Columbus Crew.
Houston added a second goal in the 37th minute, seconds after Maicon Santos had been caught offside. Luiz Camargo tracked down the ball at the other end of the field, drew Willis just far enough out of his net for Camargo to slide a pass to Will Bruin, who rolled the ball into the open net.
