DC United is holding their own against the defending MLS Cup champions. The frigid weather and the high altitude isn't affecting United's possession. Much of the game has been played on Colorado's half of the field, but United has fallen behind 1-0 thanks to the individual efforts of Colorado Rapids forward Caleb Folan.
Folan, starting in place of Omar Cummings, took a long pass from Jeff Larentowicz behind United's back-line, and managed to isolate D.C. center back Rodrigo Brasesco one-on-one. Folan cut back, forcing the Uruguayan defender to turn around, and then struck the ball cleanly with his left foot and saw it curve past D.C. goalkeeper Pat Onstad.
United had a chance to even the score just moments later as Blake Brettschneider put a shot just wide of the post at the other end. Brettschneider, playing in his first MLS game ever, also had a shot saved by Matt Pickens after a perfect cross from Santino Quaranta earlier in the half.
