D.C. United have just announced that Saturday's match against the Portland Timbers at RFK Stadium has been moved to 2:00 p.m. from the scheduled 7:30 p.m. start time due to the threat of extreme weather posed by the approach of Hurricane Irene. The Category 3 storm is expected to make landfall on the East Coast sometime this weekend and has already prompted Virginia governor Bob McDonnell to declare a state of emergency.
Previously sold tickets to Saturday's match will be honored by the club and tickets for the match can be purchased online and by phone, as well as at the RFK Stadium box office on the day.
The match will be televised live on ComcastSportsNet and will be re-aired at 8:00 p.m. Saturday night. However, the move has prompted the postponement of both the pregame Latin Fest and Richie Williams' induction into the club's Hall of Tradition, which had been schedule for halftime. Both events will take place at a later home game.
Fans should remember to wear appropriate rain gear for Saturday's match. Umbrellas are not permitted at RFK Stadium.
