MLS Schedule Changes: Hurricane Irene Forces Postponement Of D.C. United Vs. Portland Match

The impending Hurricane Irene has forced the postponement of D.C. United's match against the Portland Timbers. The match, originally scheduled for 2 p.m. at RFK Staidum, has now been postponed, according to a team announcement.

The match will be made up sometimes later in the season, with an announcement on that coming sometime next week. Fans who had tickets to Saturday's match will be able to use them for whatever the make-up date ends up being. Both teams are scheduled to be off on the week of October 8, so that would seem like a potential date.

The match had originally been scheduled for night, but was moved into the afternoon once original reports of Hurricane Irene came in. Now, with reports indicating the storm is more serious than originally anticipated, it makes sense to postpone the game.
