The George Mason Patriots can improve to 4-0 in CAA play Thursday evening when they visit the Drexel Dragons at Daskalakis Athletic Center. The two teams will jump it up at 8 Eastern on ESPNU.
The Patriots have won five straight games and 10 of their last 12 overall. Most recently, they held off a second-half rally by the Georgia St. Panthers to prevail, 61-58, behind 17 points from Vertail Vaughns and 14 from Mike Morrison, who also added a game-high 15 rebounds. GMU star Ryan Pearson failed to convert any of his four field-goal attempts, but went 10-of-10 from the foul line. The victory set a new CAA record for consecutive in-conference, regular-season wins at 18, as the Patriots won their final 14 conference games of the 2010/11 season.
Drexel has also played well of late, winning eight of its last nine to improve to 10-5 on the season. Sunday, it surged past the Va. Commonwealth Rams, 64-58, thanks to a 24-point outing by Frantz Massenat, who shot 7-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-4 from beyond the arc. The Dragons' ability to draw fouls helped them pull out the win, as they shot 35 freebies to the Rams' 20.
