Georgia State Vs. George Mason: Panthers, Patriots Battle For First Place In CAA

The George Mason Patriots (11-4, 3-0) welcome the surprising Georgia State Panthers (11-3, 3-0) to the Patriot Center on Saturday night in a battle for early-season Colonial Athletic Association supremacy.

The George Mason Patriots (11-4, 3-0) welcome the surprising Georgia State Panthers (11-3, 3-0) to the Patriot Center on Saturday night in a battle for early-season Colonial Athletic Association supremacy. The Panthers and Patriots remain the lone unbeatens in conference play, and someone is headed home Saturday evening with sole possession of first place in the ultra-competitive CAA.

Both teams are coming off impressive conference road wins. George Mason exorcised eight years of demons, defeating Old Dominion in Norfolk 63-54 on Wednesday night, for their fourth straight win. That same night, Georgia State took out last year's Final Four darling VCU 55-53 in Richmond, the Panthers' eleventh straight victory after beginning the year 0-3.

Paul Hewitt's club will need to work especially hard on the offensive end, and knock down shots, if they want to reach 4-0 in CAA play. During Georgia State's win streak, teams are shooting just 33.5 percent against the Panthers, including just 26.1 percent from behind the three point line. Only twice in the 11 games has an opponent shot better than 40 percent.
