The George Mason Patriots and head coach Paul Hewitt have landed a notable New York City recruit, Jalen Jenkins of Cardinal Hayes. Jenkins, an All-City second team selection by The New York Post, chose the Patriots over Rhode Island, Fordham, Manhattan, Quinnipiac, and Iona. Via Adam Zagoria:

Jalen Jenkins, a versatile 6-foot-7 small forward from Cardinal Hayes and the New Heights AAU program, has verbally committed to George Mason for 2012 but may spend a year in prep school.

"They recruited me heavily and showed me a tremendous amount of love," Jenkins told SNY.tv. "Their campus is beautiful and I already know a player there."

Jenkins is good friends with former Christ the King guard Corey Edwards, who was a freshman at George Mason last season and factored in Jenkins' decision to commit to the Patriots. As Zagoria notes, it is not yet known if Jenkins will suit up for Mason this fall, or a year from now. Whenever he does show up in Fairfax, he will be a welcome addition to Hewitt's roster.
