Sources within Maryland Law Enforcement have confirmed that a man who was the victim of a shooting in Bowie, Md., was Charles Smith, a former basketball start at Georgetown. According to Markham Evans at TBD, the wounds are not considered life threatening. More clarification from the Georgetown blog, Vox Populi.

During his time at Georgetown Charles Smith won the 1988-89 Big East Player of the Year award and was a member of the US Basketball team that won a bronze medal at the 1988 Olympic Games. He retired in 2001 after a brief career with the Boston Celtics and 10 years spent playing overseas.
