In Jake Whitacre's preview of this game, he mentioned that Coastal Carolina was going to be a difficult matchup. Here's what he said about them:
Last season, Coastal Carolina won the Big South regular season title and is the preseason favorite to win the conference this season. They might not be on the same level as Scott Jackson's alma mater, Old Dominion, but they won't make thing easy in the opening round of the Charleston Classic. If the Hoyas get caught looking ahead, a crowd that should be mostly in favor of Coastal Carolina, whose campus is a short, two-hour drive away from Charleston, could fuel the Chanticleers to a hot start.
And indeed, the Chanticleers are hanging in there. They trail by just six points at halftime, despite a really hot shooting performance by Georgetown in the first half. The Hoyas are 8-15 from downtown, with Chris Wright, Austin Freeman and Jason Clark accounting for all the shooting, but Coastal Carolina has gotten to the free-throw line and hung around.
Freeman leads Georgetown with nine points, while two Coastal Carolina players have nine as well.
