The star of this game was undoubtedly guard Austin Freeman, who had 30 points total, but none more important than the several key buckets he had late in the game to secure the victory.
The second half of the game saw the Hoyas extend their lead after Villanova briefly tied the game with just over ten minutes left to play. Georgetown was able to muscle their way back into an eight point lead, but the Wildcats had one more rally in them that looked like it would turn the tide.
Villanova was able to close the gap in the final minutes to a one possession game with under a minute to go. The key sequence was when they closed the game to a 1 point Georgetown lead with just udner 20 seconds left. Freeman then took the ball past midcout, and while being under a heavy press, found a wide open Nate Lubick who slammed home huge two pointer. The next possession, he provided the free throws that would ice the game for good.
The Hoyas have now won four games in a row and are 5-4 in the Big East, with this win being the biggest of all their conference wins. Georgetown will ride high into their next match up with the Louisville Cardinals as they try to climb back up the Big East standings.
