Monday night, the Georgetown Hoyas and George Mason Patriots look to build upon their 1-0 starts.
Georgetown faces the UNC-Greensboro Spartans (0-1), who lost their season-opener to the Tennessee Volunteers by a 92-63 final. That matchup is scheduled for 7 pm Eastern at Verizon Center. MASN provides television coverage, while SportsTalk 570 AM has the radio broadcast.
In their season-opener, the Hoyas easily handled the Savannah State Tigers, 83-54, on Saturday. Center Henry Sims scored 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting to lead a balanced Hoyas attack, with seven players contributing at least eight points. The Hoyas shot 34-of-51 (66.7 percent) from the field against an overmatched Tigers club.
Meanwhile, the Patriots take on the Florida International Golden Panthers on Monday evening at 9:30 PM as part of the Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off. ESPN 3 will broadcast the game live from Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, VA. The winner of Monday's contest advances to face the winner of the Virginia Tech Hokies/Monmouth Hawks game in the East Division championship.
George Mason's season began with a 92-90 overtime win against the Rhode Island Rams. Both teams scored 33 points in the first half and 47 in the second, but Ryan Pearson's layup with 2:45 to play in the extra frame put the Patriots ahead for good. They withstood an oustanding performance from Jamal Wilson, who tallied 38 points and seven boards in defeat. Pearson led the Patriots with 28 points and 12 rebounds.
