Georgetown Vs. Kansas: Jayhawks Beat Hoyas 67-63 In First Round Of Maui Invitational

The Georgetown Hoyas put up a better fight than anyone might have been expecting from such a young team, but in the end, the Kansas Jayhawks made just enough plays to hold them off in the first round of the Maui Invitational 67-63. The Hoyas were led by Jason Clark and Hollis Thompson who scored 15 and 14 points respectively, but the 20 and 12 that Kansas forward Thomas Robinson put up won out in the end.

The game was still close down to the wire but a couple free throws from Kansas' Travis Releford ended up making the difference. Georgetown was able to stay in the game thanks in large part to the sloppiness of Kansas. The Jayhawks outshot and outrebounded the Hoyas pretty handily, but they lost the turnover battle and that enabled the Hoyas to stay in it. Every time the Jayhawks looked to pull away, the Hoyas would force a few turnovers and work their way back into the game.

The Hoyas will play now play host Chaminade on Tuesday at 4:30 pm in a game that can be seen on ESPN2, while Kansas advances to face UCLA at 9:30. For more on the Georgetown athletics, check out Casual Hoya.
