The Georgetown Hoyas (8-1) check in at No. 16 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll, released Monday. That's an improvement over last week's poll, in which Georgetown filled the No. 18 spot.
In the Hoyas' lone game since the last poll, they knocked off the Howard Bisons, 62-48, despite shooting 16-of-49 (32.7 percent) from the field. Georgetown's ability to work its way to the foul line--it had 42 free throw attempts to Howard's 22--proved to be the difference.
Though the teams in the top 15 in this poll remain unchanged, there have been a few changes, most notably the Syracuse Orange (10-0) taking over the No. 1 ranking. The Orange, who ranked No. 3 last week, earned 51 first-place votes out of a possible 65 in claiming the top spot. The Ohio St. Buckeyes (8-1) held steady at No. 2, while the Kentucky Wildcats (8-1) fell to No. 3 following their loss to the No. 19 Indiana Hoosiers over the weekend. The Louisville Cardinals (9-0) and North Carolina Tar Heels (8-2) round out the top five.
