2011 NCAA Tournament Bracket, East Region: Ohio State Earns No. 1 Overall Seed

The NCAA 2011 bracket has been announced on the Selection Sunday show, and Ohio State has earned the No. 1 seed in the East Region. The Buckeyes won the Big 10 Tournament title on Sunday, defeating Penn State in the championship game.

The Buckeyes will play No. 16 seed the winner of a play-in game between Texas San-Antonio and Alabama State in the first round. 

Here are the rest of the East Region matchups:

  • North Carolina earned the No. 2 seed in the East Region as an at-large, and will play No. 15 seed Long Island in the first round. The Blackbirds won the Northeast Conference Tournament.
  • Syracuse earned the No. 3 seed as an at-large. The Orange will play No. 14 seed Indiana State in the first round. The Sycamores won the Missouri Valley Tournament
  • Kentucky will be the No. 4 seed after winning the SEC Tournament. The Wildcats play No. 13 seed Princeton in the first round. The Tiers won the Ivy League in a playoff. 
  • West Virginia will be the No. 5 seed  as an at-large. The Mountaineers the winner of a play-in game between UAB and Clemson. The Blazers and Tigers both are among the last teams in the field, and will play in a play-in game on Tuesday.
  • Xavier will be the No. 6 seed as an at-large. The Musketeers play No. 11 seed Marquette in the first round. The Golden Eagles earned an at-large bid. 
  • Washington will be the No. 7 seed after winning the Pac-10 Tournament. The Huskies play No. 10 seed Georgia in the first round. The Bulldogs earned an at-large bid. 
  • George Mason will be the No. 8 seed as an at-large. The Patriots play No. 9 seed Villanova in the first round. The Wildcats earned an at-large bid.
