Big East Tournament 2011: Rutgers Tops Seton Hall In Overtime, Will Face St. John's

It wasn't a pretty game, but Rutgers won the battle of the two New Jersey schools in an exciting first-round Big East Tournament game at Madison Square Garden. The Scarlet Knights survived a game-tying three-pointer from Jeremy Hazell and defeated Seton Hall in overtime 76-70 to move on to the next round.

The Scarlet Knights move to 16-16 overall and will face No. 5 seed St. John's Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Seton Hall's season likely ends, as they fall to 13-19.

The Scarlet Knights made a late rally to take a three-point lead with just 8.9 seconds remaining, but Hazell tied the game with this three-point shot. Video via MockSessions.

But Rutgers controlled overtime, taking the lead for good with under a minute remaining. Seton Hall had two chances late, but Jeff Robinson missed a three and Hazell turned it over. Jonathan Mitchell had 25 points to lead the Scarlet Knights, while Hazell had 27 in a losing effort.
