The Georgetown Hoyas went up to the Carrier Dome to face one of the best teams in the country on Wednesday and when it was all said and done, they nearly eked out a win. But despite arguably outplaying the Syracuse Orange for much of the contest, the Orange made enough experienced plays to fight them off in overtime. Our Georgetown blog Casual Hoya is bummed about the way it went down, but sees the good in a loss like this.
This is a loss that will make this Georgetown team hungrier. For a young team, this kind of loss will build confidence. We went toe-to-toe with one of the three best teams in their country on their home floor and had the game ripped from us. I can honestly say that tonight Georgetown was the better team, but Syracuse executed better.
Georgetown might be highly ranked, but this was a hard game to expect them to win. Syracuse was ranked higher, they had home court and they were the more experienced club. It would have been a pretty big upset if the Hoyas were able to pull out a win, but the loss can still be a learning experience.
