NCAA Tournament 2012 Bracket Update: Georgetown Is No. 3 Seed, Will Face Belmont On Friday

The Georgetown Hoyas earned a No. 3 seed and will face No. 14 seed Belmont in its first NCAA Tournament game.

Presswire

The 2012 NCAA Tournament bracket and field has been announced, and the Georgetown Hoyas have received a No. 3 seed in the Midwest Region. The Hoyas' first opponent will be the Belmont Bruins, and they will play on Friday, March 16 in Columbus, Ohio. If Georgetown wins their first matchup, they will face the winner of No. 6 San Diego State and No. 11 North Carolina State on Sunday, March 18.

Georgetown earned the No. 3 seed with their regular season performance in the Big East, where they finished with a 12-6 record, good for a tie for fourth place. They finished 23-8 overall and had some very good non-conference wins against Memphis (twice) and Alabama. They didn't have any home losses against non-NCAA Tournament teams, and their only questionable loss was away to Pittsburgh. Their season closed with a loss in the Big East tournament to the same team that beat them at home in conference, the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Here's a look at the Midwest Region of the 2012 NCAA Tournament bracket:

No. 1 North Carolina vs. Lamar/Vermont, Friday 3/16/12
No. 8 Creighton vs. No. 9 Alabama, Friday 3/16/12
