NCAA Bracket 2012: Georgetown To Play Belmont In First Round

After landing the No. 3 seed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, the Georgetown Hoyas will be playing 14-seeded Belmont to kick things off in the first round. The Hoyas were a lock for an at-large bid from the tournament's selection committee after turning in a 23-8 record during a regular season.

The Hoyas defeated Pittsburgh in their second round matchup at the Big East Tournament but were bounced out by Cincinnati in double overtime in the quarterfinals at Madison Square Garden. With a full week of rest, the Hoyas will now begin their postseason march against Belmont.

The Belmont Bruins won the Atlantic Sun in the regular season and won the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament. The Bruins put up an impressive 27-7 record and a 16-2 record in the Atlantic Sun. Belmont had some impressive close losses on their resume, falling to the Duke Blue Devils by a single point in the first game of the season and keeping it close with Memphis for much of the game. Outside of that however, the Bears dominated most of their opponents and enter the matchup with Georgetown with a 14-game win streak.
