Georgetown's 83-69 loss to Marquette combined with other results on the final day of the Big East's regular season schedule to ensure that the Hoyas would not get one of the coveted double-bye spots given to the top-four finishers in the 16-team conference.

With Syracuse (17-1 in conference) already in possession of the top spot in the conference at the start of the day, Marquette (14-4) clinched the No. 2 seed in next week's tournament by beating the Hoyas on Senior Day in Milwaukee. Notre Dame (13-5) secured the No.3 seed after beating Providence 75-69 Friday night in South Bend. Georgetown, Cincinnati, and South Florida all finished in a three-way tie for 4th with conference records of 12-6, but the tiebreaker went to the Bearcats on the strength of a better record against Seton Hall, the highest-finishing team that produced a differentiation of records between the Hoyas and Bearcats.

As the No. 5 seed, Georgetown will open Big East Tournament play on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Madison Square Garden. Their opponent will be either 12th-seeded St. John's or 13th-seeded Pitt.
